Abstract: This study sought to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from inpatients populations at the Kenyatta National Hospital. A total of 188 P. aeruginosa strains were obtained from different inpatient wards from August 2015 to January 2016. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were conducted on the Vitek 2-Compact (Biomereux company-France). P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and E. coli ATCC 25922 were used as reference strains for drug resistance testing and
interpretation done based on the CLSI 2017 guideline.
High resistance was recorded towards Tetracycline (92%) with an MIC of ≥ 128μg/ml followed by Cefotaxime
(88.8%) and Ceftriaxone (86.2%) with...........

Abstract:Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women worldwide.BRCA1 (breast cancer type 1) is a human tumor suppressor gene(2,3). It is found in all humans; it's a protein, responsible for repairing DNA. Objective: To evaluate the expression of BRCA1 protein in breast cancer and assess associations with histological stages, and grades. Materials and Methods: Seventy cases of breast cancer were subjected to immunohistochemistry for expression of BRCA protein. Results:Out of 70 cases of breast cancer; 46 cases (65.7%) were positive in BRCA1 (over expression). There is asignificant correlation between the results of IHC staining of BRCA1 with age group.

Abstract: Background: Aloe barbadensis miller (Aloevera) is a known medicinal plant belonging to the Liliaceae family. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green with some varieties showing white flecks on their upper and lower stem surfaces. The slimy gel in the aloevera leaf has traditionally been used for treatment of digestive tract disturbances, sunburn and wounds. The therapeutic claims for aloevera cover a broad range of conditions. It is commonly used topically in the treatment of dermatological conditions such as dermatitis. An evaluation study to determine the antifungal activities of methanolic and ethanolic extracts of aloevera on Candida albicans isolateswas carried out.........

Abstract:The objective of present work was to design, formulate and characterize the enteric coated pellets of Rabeprazole using dry powder layering method and also study the ulcer protecting effect of pellets against the gastric lesions induced by 70 % ethanol in albino wistar rats. The evaluation of pellets was done using DSC, FT-IR and SEM study. The kinetic release study was also done on all formulations. In vitro drug release study data was fitted on the different kinetic models and formulation F5 showed the Higuchi drug release. In vivo antiulcer activity was done on formulation F5 showed that the formulation was able to protect the rat stomach against ulcers formation. The levels of thiobarbituric acid, estimation of lipid peroxidation, estimation of reduced glutathione, estimation of catalase activity and protein determination was also done..

Abstract: In the present study we have investigated antioxidant activity ofdoum(Hyphaenethebaica) fruit by using soxhlet apparatus for 9 hours to each of ethanol and ethyl acetate solvents. The antioxidant activity was done by using(DPPH) 2, 2 - diphenyl, 1- picrylhydrazylandand ( FRAP) ferric reducing antioxidant power assays.(BHT)butylatedhydroxytoluene was used as control. The results show that the scavenging effects of both extracts from our plant on DPPH radicals increased by increasing theconcentration. Ethyl acetate extract of the H. thebaica showed strong DPPH scavenging activity at concentrations (400, 600, 800 μg/ml)more than ethanolic extract and BHT which were.........

Abstract:Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in which glucose is underutilized, producing hyperglycemia resulting from a defect in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Type 2 diabetes comprises 90% of people with diabetes around the world, and is largely the result of excess body weight and physical inactivity. In these patients, sulphonyl ureas (glimepiride) and biguanide (metformin) are the most commonly prescribed oral treatment options. Because of their complementary mechanism of action, combination therapy with a sulphonyl urea and biguanide rational is this combination lead to benefits in terms of improved glycaemic control and improved tolerability at lower doses of the individual agents. In this study, Metformin hydrochloride sustained.........

Abstract:Fat bodies and haemolymph were extracted using standard methods from Periplaneta americana and Tettigonia virridisima exposed for 24 hours to 600mg of essential oil extracted via soxhlet apparatus with hexane from the leaves of Euphorbia milii. Biochemical evaluation of fat bodies and haemolymph was carried out to ascertain the possible routes of insecticidal action of the oil. Changes in ionic composition (Mn2+, Mg2+, Na2+, K2+, Ca2+),were analyzed in the fat body while possible changes in the activity of metabolic enzymes (Acetyl cholinesterase, Catalase, Glutathione-S-transeferase,) and other biochemical parameters including; reduced glutathione, total protein and glucose concentrations were evaluated in the haemolymph. The results of ionic composition showed a significant decrease..............

Abstract:To study the effect of proton pump inhibitors in the treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux by means of 'Reflux symptom index' and 'Reflux finding score' A prospective observational study was carried out in Rajah Muthaiah Medical college and hospital. And a total of 20 patients were enrolled for the study to investigate the effect of proton pump inhibitors in the management of laryngopharyngeal reflux using a predesigned format out of which 20 of them completed successfully. Total number of patients included in the study were 20. females 13patients and their percentage is (65%) , males 7patients which gives (35%). Age of the patients varied from 0 to 70 years. No patient was less than 20 years of age.the majority of subjects affected in our study were age group 31 to 40 years forming about 40% and the age group of 41 to 50 years forming about 30% of the study group.

Parvovirus B19, It is a DNA virus that is responsible for causing several diseases in humans. Objectives: To determine the infection rate of human parvovirus B19 among dialyzed patients in Baqubah City. Patients and methods: Cross-sectional research study which includes 51 dialyzed patients who have been selected randomly from Ibn-Sina Hemodialysis Center in Baqubah Teaching Hospital during the period from
September 2016 till February 2017. Full information had been taken directly from the patients and the information had been arranged in an informative formula sheet which includes: age, gender, residence, marital status, education levels, occupation, history of blood transfusion, kidney transplant and associated with other disease. All study subjects were screened for anti-human parvovirus B19 IgM and IgG antibodies using enzymelinked immunosorbent assay...........
