Abstract: Snake envenoming is a neglected tropical diseases mostly affecting rural farmers and their families, leading to morbidity and sometimes mortality. Over the years plants and their products have been useful in the treatment of snakebites. This study investigated the effect of methanol leaf extracts of Costus afer on rats injected with Naja nigricollis snake venom. Phytochemical analysis, plant and venom toxicities (LD50) were determined using standard methods while enzyme assays were carried out using spectrophotometric techniques. The phytochemicals were found to be high with tannins been the highest. The acute toxicity studies (LD50) of the plant extracts were found to be......
