Abstract: In the present study we have investigated antioxidant activity ofdoum(Hyphaenethebaica) fruit by using soxhlet apparatus for 9 hours to each of ethanol and ethyl acetate solvents. The antioxidant activity was done by using(DPPH) 2, 2 - diphenyl, 1- picrylhydrazyland ( FRAP) ferric reducing antioxidant power assays.(BHT)butylatedhydroxytoluene was used as control. The results show that the scavenging effects of both extracts from our plant on DPPH radicals increased by increasing theconcentration. Ethyl acetate extract of the H. thebaica showed strong DPPH scavenging activity at concentrations (400, 600, 800 μg/ml)more than ethanolic extract and BHT which were 70.20, 88.70 and 95.80% respectively. Ethyl acetate extract showed highest FRAP scavenging activity at concentration...........

Abstract: Prenatal exposure to carbamazepine has been shown to interfere with the normal morphogenesis and differention of the various fetal organs when applied in management of various maternal conditions like bipolar disorders, trigeminal neuralgia, andseizures associated with epilepsy among others.Such perturbations on normal development of the fetal organs in-utero can help in explainingthe cause of some of the structural, behavioral and functional mental disorders observed in adulthood whose cause is yet to be established. Such disorders of embryological origin are currently a major contributor to the disability-adjusted life years (DALY) in adulthood.Though, the existing literature has linked the prenatal exposure to alteration in various growth and development parameters......

Abstract: Phenytoin is an antiepileptic drug with no sedative effects widely used in treatment of convulsive disorders. However, its use in pregnancy has been associated with various fetal malformations and impairment of fetal growth. Many factors have been attributed to these effects including phenytoin capacity to cause hypoxia in embryonic tissue, interference with maternal folate metabolism, maternal hemodynamic alterations, its inhibition on potassium channels among others, these consequently affect various developing fetus structures and organs that be associated with currently common postnatally problems of unknown cause such as growth retardation, congenital rickets ,congenital.........
