Abstract: The reliability of electric power distribution networks has gained greater interest in recent times. One of the main causes of frequent failure of electric power distribution networks is exceeding the current carrying capacity of the conductors being used. That normally happen as a result of failure of utility companies to upgrade the conductor to a bigger size as the load increases due to lack of resources. The projected annual load growth for metropolitan areas in Ghana averages 8% per annum. For that reason, the projected load growth for the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis for the years 2020, 2025 and 2030 was estimated using the 8% annual load growth rate. The modelling and the simulation results indicated that aluminium conductor of size 265 mm2 is required to sustain the projected load growth beyond the year 2030 but will require switch shunt capacitor compensation.
